Courtney and Brien were married in the historic town of Mount Dora just outside of Orlando Florida. Traveling down from Atlanta Georgia for their daytime wedding, they held the Old English-style ceremony and the reception at Lakeside Inn Resort. With original plans to hold the wedding outside, the rain came down and blessed the brides dress with goodluck. The ceremony was moved into the Lakeside Inn lobby with hard wood floors and embelished ceilings.

The ceremony began with beautiful music played by a small orchestra. Courtney was escorted out the glass doors and down the aisle by her mother, Tina. Keeping her wedding within her family, Courtney's father, an ordained minister, married them both. It was a very traditional ceremony with the exchanging of vows and rings. Before being announced husband and wife, another close family member sang a beautiful number to them both. A beautiful trumpet played as they walked hand and hand with gigantic smiles on their faces back down the aisle.

Courtney and Brien both agreed that they were interested in candid photographs instead of the traditional images for their portraits. We spent a couple minutes doing some quick family portraits, then we had a fun time with the bridal party and the couple doing some sweet images of them together. Being the historic, wrap around, front porch type manor that it was, portraits of the couple in the rocking chairs were very important. We let them be themselves and just observed with our cameras.

The reception included a brunch for their friends and family, and the music was live music from a local harpist. Speeches from several friends and family came before brunch, including a sweet thank you to all who attended from the bride. After brunch, the couple cut their cake, danced a dance, and threw the garder. The couple exited their reception with dried rose petals being tossed their way for good luck and a beautiful horse-drawn carriage ride.

Angelina and Daniel were married not too far from their home in Orlando. The ceremony was held just out front of the historic Spanish farmhouse Casa Feliz in Winter Park, Florida. Translated as "Happy House", Casa Feliz was built in 1932 and later moved in 2000 to it's current location on the Winter Park Golf Course. It's an absolutely gorgeous brick historic home, and a beautiful backdrop for a wedding. With a smaller wedding of approximately 40 guests, the grounds made the new couple's wedding day an intimate occasion. The lawn was set with deep cherry wood and black leather chairs for the traditional ceremony. Immediately after the wedding ceremony, the guests proceeded to the cocktail time in Casa Feliz's side room. The bride and groom's family and wedding party stayed around for portraits out front of the historic home.

The new happy couple did get some time to enjoy with their guests before proceeding to the reception. In one of the living spaces on the bottom floor, the DJ was set up with his speakers and the announcements were made as the wedding party entered the room. Angelina and Daniel had their first dances, and the famiy and friends joined.
The couple were adamate about using the photo booth at the wedding. They were not huge dancers themselves, and they wanted to make sure their guests had a great time with them. The booth was a hit. Even the grandparents were getting into it, and now there are some super fun images to remember the night by.

After a few hours of eating, drinking, and having a fun night, it was time for Angelina and Daniel to go. They had to catch an early flight the next morning for their honeymoon. They gathered their suitcases, and scurried out to their exit car beneath a tunnel of sparklers.

Matt and Megan were married in a tiny town in South Carolina, not too far from where they both grew up together. The wedding ceremony was held at a historic bed a breakfast in Westminster, SC called Magnolia Manor. With a 100 foot magnolia tree towering over the two story house, it was a beautiful backdrop for a perfect southern wedding. On the back lawn, all 150 guets were seated in white chairs, each lining up to sign the guest book before they were seated. Megan had her first glimpse of Matt waiting for her at the alter when she stepped out from the back of the house with her father. From the top of set of stairs, she and Matt smiled widely at each other in their excitement. She was guided arm and arm down the stairwell, lacced with purple flowers. Her father proudly gave her away at the wedding alter.

The thirty minute wedding ceremony consisted of the Unity Candle, lit by the mothers of the families, a good friend sang a song of love and blessings, and of course their vows of devotion to each other. It was a touching wedding ceremony lit by the dappled lighting of the surrounding trees, with the couple underneath a large trellace.

After the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds, their family, and the wedding party made their way to the front lawn for portraits. The family portraits were made in the traditional style of the British Royalty, with the historic manor perched just behind them. When the larger group portraits were completed, the couple spent another 30 minutes on portraits. On the breathtaking grounds of the manor, the couple swang on a wooden swing under a large oak, they walked through a green valley between two towering trees, and they made their way through a rock-filled drive. A perfect place for a perfect day to remember.

The reception was short and meaningful, starting with the cake cutting, then moving on to the groom's cake, toasts, and the first dances. The highlight of the afternoon was when the couple made their way down the bubble-filled walkway to their get away car. A bright orange Cuda convertible with black racing stripes. They hopped in the back seat of the car & peeled out down the road, waving to all of their guests who watched on as they left.

Photography Tip #19: Sun Damaged Skin

Being that bronze goddess walking down the aisle in her soft white dress is an ideal look for a bride. Unfortunately, frying yourself the week of your wedding is not the way to go about getting that tanned look. There are issues that arise when you tan yourself using the sun's rays or a tanning bed. Sun kissed skin does not hold make up as well, and it either gets oily and greasy or dries out and flakes.

Make up is the last thing you will want to worry about and/or mess with on the day of your wedding. Consider using a self-tanning lotion and/or asking your make up artist to give you that golden glow using their makeup.

Photography Tip #18: Portraits Before the Wedding

Save time and save yourself the stress by considering taking your formal portraits before your wedding. Couples who do are glad they did. Most formal portraits can take anywhere from one hour to two hours depending on how extensive your portrait list is. It's mostly "crunch time" in between the ceremony and the reception when your guests are expecting you to arrive as a brand new couple. Doing your formal portraits before the actual ceremony relieves the pressure off when you and the bridal party are ready to break loose, start drinking, and have fun.

Some couples insist on not seeing each other until the actual ceremony. If that is case, strongly consider doing as many portraits as possible as individuals with your family and bridal party before the wedding.

Yes, flowers are a beautiful addition to a wedding and who wouldn't want to include them, but what are you supposed to do with them? Whatever you do, make sure you hold them down. You do not want your flowers blocking your wedding dress. Consider the size of your bouquet also when you are ordering your flowers. You do not want the bouquet to be too large or too heavy! If you have a two foot cascading bouquet, that is two feet of self you will be covering and probably ten pounds you will be carrying around all day. It may look beautiful in that flower catalogue, but remember to keep it manageable!

Photography Tip #10: Time of Day

Keep lighting in mind when choosing the time of day for your wedding and your venue. If your wedding is outdoors, late afternoon is optimum. Just be careful that the wedding will end at least 1.5-2 hours before the sky is pitch black. You will want some time for a receiving line and portraits. You would be surprised how fast sunset turns to night sky. If your wedding is indoors, you may want to avoid buildings with few windows. Natural light always looks the best in photos, so try to plan your wedding when the room is at it's brightest.

The single use camera, better known as a disposable, is often used during wedding receptions. They are placed on the tables for the guests to capture each other and fun moments throughout the night; or that is what the plan is, right?

Disposable cameras seldom live up to a new couple's expectations. Out of all of the cameras placed out on the tables, you may get a couple good photos from them. Mostly, the images will end up containing images of people you hardly know, probably taken by your drunken cousin later on in the night. Not to mention your 5 year old nephew who uses the entire camera on blurry images of his food & close up images of his parents or sister making funny faces at the dinner table. Most couples are not looking to remember their wedding day with these types of images.

Thus, rethink relying solely on disposable cameras during your reception. They may be fun for your guests, and you may get some funny images for your album, but they are never worth replacing a professional. If your main photographer is offering a second photographer shooting your reception, even if it is just during the main events, you are better off saying yes than cutting out the second person.

Or were the images flat and dull? Make sure the photographer can handle it & that you like what they can do.

Wedding Photography Albums are one of the things that have changed the most over the coarse of the years. Looking back not more than ten years ago, wedding albums were made from individual 4x6 or 3x5 prints slid into a sleeved acetate page or stuck onto a sticky album page. With the advance of digital and book binding becoming more accessible and user friendly, traditional wedding albums are taking a bound book format.

Here are some tips to make your Wedding Album last as long as possible:

1. Turn the album pages with your finger tips, not with your fingernails.

2. Keep the album closed and lying flat when not in use.

3. Keep your album out of the direct sunlight.

4. Carefully wipe your album when cleaning using a soft, dry cloth.

About Face: Thursday's Ladies Night Review

This past week About Face Design Team, a local hair and makeup salon out of Winter Park, had their first open house. They called it Third Thursday's Night Out, Ladies Night of Beauty. They are working on promoting their salon to brides and vendors in the area. Owned by Kari Larsen and Gina Lamm, the business has been buzzing for many years now. True professionals, the ladies work in many different arenas of the business, such as bridal, print, and television. Their work has been featured on the covers of Orlando Magazine, Central Florida Bride Magazine, Orlando Bride, Orlando Leisure, and on the Golf Channel to name a few.

Their event was a hit, featuring goodies from Puff N Stuff Catering and a table center piece from Vintage Vines.
